But do you really love cows?

As my name states, I am blunt and a vegan. In my previous posts I have posted recipes and such but I’m going to get blunt now. You can’t describe yourself as an animal lover if you support the diary industry.

We see these commercials where cows are running around in fields and open air just being cows. Well that’s not the case on most dairy farms. Let’s think about it, when mothers get pregnant they develop milk to feed their babies. Well when you have your morning cereal with whole milk you’re drinking a cows breast milk. If you don’t see the problem with that then how would you feel if a squirrel was drinking human breast milk? That’s basically the same thing as humans drinking cows milk.

The dairy industry is a billion dollar industry that inseminates female cows so they can get pregnant. Cows and every other animal can produce milk when they’re pregnant. These cows don’t run around just getting intimate with each other. They are in these tiny areas where they get inseminated, give birth, have their baby ripped away then the process goes on over and over again. Now if a cow gives birth to a male they get slaughtered for veal, YUP they don’t get a chance at live just slaughtered!

Now if you still want to argue that you love cheese and can’t give up milk maybe this will. In cows milk there’s A1-beta casein which increases your risk of type 1 diabetes and heart disease. It was also found that cow’s milk contained traces of anti-inflammatory drug niflumic acid, mefenamic acid and ketoprofen. It also contained the hormone 17-beta-estradiol. In a 2010 study it was found that dairy can also increase acne, which who wants that! Did you know that milk can also increase your chances of cancer? With excess calcium from milk may increase your chance of prostate cancer. Milk sugars also give you a higher chance of ovarian cancer.

Now I could show you pictures of baby cows getting taken away and murdered but I’m not in the mood to cry. So after reading this I advise all of you to do your own research. There’s so much research and experiments about the dairy industry. So if you really love animals, just switch to dairy free milk.

The best F*cking salad EVER

One day after working out I was CRAVING salad! Yup you heard me I was craving a freaking salad! For years salad has always been crapped on for being boring and lame. Which depending on where you get your salad from it could taste very bland. As I was running around my kitchen starving I came up with this yummy salad recipe.

Ingredients

. Kale

. Peppers

. Cucumbers

. Green olives

. Black olives

. Green Onion

. 1 tbsp of rice vinegar

. 1 tbsp of soy sauce

. 2 tbsp of olive oil

. garlic seasoning

. umami seasoning

Step 1

First you’re going to want to chop your ingredients and put that into a medium size bowl.

Step 2

Next add in your seasoning, I personally LLLOOOVVEEE garlic so I add a good amount but you can be the judge of that. Now the umami seasoning I got from Trader Joe’s and it is very savory so don’t add to much of that.

Step 3

Add in the rice vinegar, soy sauce and olive oil and then massage your salad with your hands.

Bon Appetit!!!

Sriracha Coconut Ramen Bowl

When most people think of ramen they get flashbacks of eating it for two months straight. I only ate it for a few weeks during my summer semester so it wasn’t TO bad! When I first started to learn how to cook a few years ago I found a recipe for a vegetarian ramen bowl and haven’t looked back. I made the recipe a few days ago and it was so good I had to share!

Ingredients

. 1 cup of vegetable broth

. 1 cup of canned coconut milk

. 2 tbsp of Sriracha sauce

. 1 packet of ramen

. 2 dash of red pepper (optional)

. bean sprouts (optional)

. carrots

. celery

. mushrooms

. bell peppers

. broccoli

. 1 can of chick-peas

Step 1

. Turn on your stove and add coconut oil

Step 2

. Wash and chop up your veggies!

Step 3

. Throw in your carrots and celery, then add in your garlic seasoning and ginger! I usually use ginger seasoning but still tastes great.

Step 4

. After you saute for a few minutes add in the rest of your veggies, chick-peas and sriracha sauce.

Step 5

. Add in your one cup of broth and one cup of coconut milk, during this step you can also add in your red pepper flakes. Then you bring it to a boil.

Step 6

. When your broth is at a boil then add in your ramen for four minutes. In a bowl add in your ingredients. I put some bean sprouts on top for some extra nutrients and flavor!

Enjoy!

Unicorn Noodle Bowl

As I was scrolling through Instagram a few days ago I saw a picture of unicorn noodles. SSSOOO if you don’t know those are basically clear noodles that were soaked in red cabbage water. As I was looking at recipes I saw that none had any nutritional value to it. The recipes were basically noodles with lime or lemon (which I will talk about later.) So I decided to make my own spin on the recipe. N

Ingredients

. Red Cabbage

. Water

. Shirataki noodles

. Kale

. Mushrooms

. Bell peppers

. White mushrooms

. Tossables aka pre-marinated already baked tofu in Garlic and Herb

. Eggplant

. Cucumber

. Carrots

. Lemon juice

. Soy Sauce

Noodles

First things first, boil some water! I measured out two cups of water and let that boil. As you wait for the water to boil cut up your red cabbage, you’re going to want to use a good amount since that is what turns to color. After the water starts to boil you put the red cabbage in and start on the noodles! You’re going to want to dump the noodles into a strainer and run it under some water for a few minutes. Then dump the noodles into the purple water and let them sit for a few minutes then BAM blue noodles!

Veggies

While the noodles are chilling in the water you’re going to want to chop up your vegetables. After chopping those up you’re going to saute up your kale, eggplant and mushrooms. It’s pretty easy just add some oil and throw in your veggies. I added a little garlic seasoning for taste but I like the natural flavor of vegetables. After adding that lower the heat the medium heat, the kale and mushrooms got done before the eggplant so take those out. You’re going to want to wait until the eggplant is soft then removed that from the pan.

The Finished Product

You’re going to want to combine your noodles, tofu and veggies into a bowl and top it off with a little lemon juice. The lemon juice reacts with the noodles to change it’s color to pink (gotta love chemistry). I added a little soy sauce for an extra flavor but it will also taste good with the lemon!

Enjoy!

How to be stylish and ethical

I have always loved jewelry since I was a small girl wearing jewelry from the, ‘Pretty, Pretty Princess” game. As I got older my jewelry started coming from Forever 21 because who doesn’t love three dollar necklaces. It wasn’t until I became older I started realizing how a lot of jewelry isn’t ethically made. Now the definition of ethically made basically means not made from animals such as leather and the workers have good working conditions. Companies with ethically made jewelry and clothes have flexible working environments, good wages and can even give back to the community. While I have two jewelry boxes full of ethically made jewelry, I’ll be going through six of my favorites.

Jeanne Verger Jewelry

Jeanne Verger started out as an advertising and creative director for Warner Bros Records. Jeanne first started to design her own mala beads then came up with the idea to make an inspirational jewelry line for women. Now Jeanne has an amazing and inspirational company that helps women feel better about themselves inside and out. “Inspiring women to feel, see and own their beautiful deep flowing feminine heart brings me so much joy and love in my life. I work with women and help them understand the two energies we hold, masculine and feminine, and how important each energy is to embody.” – Jeanne Verger https://jeannevergerjewelry.com/

Kendra Scott

Kendra Scott was just a mom from Austin who turned a small business into a billion dollar company. I first learned about Kendra Scott during a philanthropy event with my sorority. I found her jewelry gorgeous and something I could wear with anything. All of Scott’s jewelry is made from quality materials and likes to focus on their customers. The company is known for giving back to many different philanthropies and having events at children’s hospitals where the kids even get to make their own pieces. Scott even won an award from RecognizeGood’s Ethics in Business & Community Awards. https://www.kendrascott.com/

Pura Vida Bracelets

A good eighty percent of my bracelets are from Pura Vida Bracelets. My mom told me about them in college and I immediately fell in love. The company was created by Griffin Hall and Paul Goodman after a trip to Costa Rica. During their trip they ran across two local artisans named Jorge and Joaquin. Hall and Goodman asked the two men to make 400 bracelets they could take back to the states to sell. After the bracelets sold out at a local California boutique Hall and Goodman knew this was about to change the lives of many. They partnered up with Jorge and Joaquin and now have bracelets worn by millions that also give more than 650 people from Costa Rica, El Salvador, India and more a steady income. The bracelets are hand made and even help different philanthropies from the environment to mental health. http://puravidabracelets.com

Alex and Ani

I’m sure if you’re reading this then you have recognized these bracelets. Alex and Ani was created in Rhode Island and is American made plus eco conscious. The company has jewelry for every person with different styles. They even have jewelry that helps philanthropies from all across the globe. In just six years 46 million has been donated to non profits wold wide. https://blog.alexandani.com

Milamu

This mother/son company was created to enhance your beauty and to help the environment. Their products are 100% crafted by hand and 100% natural which helps you and the environment. Every six months they partner with a different organization who receive 10% of every sale under $50 and 20% of every sale over $50 toward the cause the organization focuses on. Snoop Dogg’s love of plant based burgers is true love

There are many celebrities who are vegan in Hollywood from Miley Cyrus Hemsworth to Stevie Wonder. Veganism is gaining popularity in Hollywood and love from even Snoop Dogg. Yup that’s right Snoop Dogg LOVES meat replacements such as the Beyond Meat Burger. Snoop was introduced to plant based meat in 2013 by Russell Simmons (whose also a vegan) when they shared vegan pastrami. In 2016 on, Jimmy Kimmel Live” he was shown how hot dogs were made. After being scarred Snoop says, “If that’s how they make hot dogs, then I don’t want one.” He even mentions throwing a hot dog out of someone’s hand next time he’s at a BBQ. In 2018 he performed at the Environmental Association Honors Gala last June, he also had a Beyond Meat backdrop. #ADORBS!

His love for vegan burgers doesn’t end there. Two weeks ago Snoop even served Carl Junior. Beyond Star Burger at his pre-Grammy party. He is even quoted saying, “Now everyone can hit the drive thru and order that Beyond Famous Star Burger.” His love goes deeper after his visit to, “Slutty Vegan” in Atlanta recently.

The rapper even posed with vegan Ultraman, author, and podcast host, Rich Roll. Roll captioned it saying, “No point in even trying to act cool in this situation.” The real question the vegan community wants to know is, are you vegan Snoop?! While he hasn’t confirmed if he is plant based you have to admit his love for vegan burgers is true.

My Daily Routine

When you see some of these blog people their morning routine is so complicated and with so many products it can be confusing. When I did my transition to the vegan lifestyle I had to look at the morning routine I’ve been doing for years. Turns out most of the products I was using was not good for me or for the planet. I did not feel comfortable using products that were tested on animals and harmful to me. So after much research I finally found the routine that works for me and my needs.

As someone who is a caffeine addict I’ve always had a problem with my teeth getting stained. I tried most whitening toothpastes but nothing did the job and I wasn’t sure on getting them done. During one of my usual TjMaxx trips I found this brand and figured might as well. Let’s put it this way if it was legal I would marry this toothpaste. In just under a month it has made my smile brighter. You can either purchase from their website or your local TjMaxx which is probably cheaper. I paid $7 for this compared to the $20 from their website.

Out of all the lotions I’ve tried The Body Shop is one of my favorite brands. This lotion does not make my face oily and even has SPF in it. Now Tan-Luxe is one of my new favorite products. Once a week I add 2 drops to my lotion and evenly apply it on my face and neck. The lotion is $23 but I usually wait until their sales and the Tan-Luxe is $49 on Sephora and ULTA. While Tan-Luxe is a little pricey it lasts forever and is worth it.

I received this as a Hanukkah present last year and have been in love since. It does not have clumps and gives your lashes a lift and highlights your eyes. You can get it at most stores such as Sephora/Ulta but you can also get it on their website for $24 but you can also use a 20% off when you sign up for emails!

My mom first told me about this brand a few years ago and it is my favorite go to for my lips. I wore this brand for all my sorority recruitment’s, conferences and even every day. There are so many colors for every personality and look you want to go for. The one I wear the most is Naked, you get that nice nude color that also lasts all day and easy to come off. You can order from the Jouer cosmetics website for $18 ( and a 15% off when you sign up.) If you also follow Christina Zilber you can also use her 15% off code.

As I mentioned before I am a caffeine addict but I am also a Trader Joe’s addict. Not only do they have amazing food but their beauty products are also SUPER awesome. The toner gives you a nice, fresh feeling and it is not tested on animals. You can find it at your local Trader Joe’s for $3.99! WHAT A STEAL!

Let your journey BEGIN!

Thanks for joining me! Whenever someone mentions vegans they just see that person yelling at them for eating a burger or throwing red paint at the New York Fashion Week. You get turned away from the idea that maybe you can do this, you don’t want to be made fun of or feel like your limiting yourself from food because you don’t and won’t.

Growing up I lived in a pescitarian household and only ate meat outside of the house. When I was seventeen I was looking at baby farm animals on Pinterest and realized, “How can I be an animal lover if I ate meat.” So I started to slowly make the transition to living a better and healthier life. When you decide to be vegan it’s all about transitioning into that lifestyle. If you just went 100% right away then you’re probably just going to go back to your old ways.

First you just need to slowly remove certain foods from your diet for me that was poultry, beef and pork. Instead of ordering a beef burger I would order a veggie burger or even a salmon burger. For years I still ate cheese, eggs and seafood. Each year I slowly decided to cut out certain foods until last August I decided to become fully vegan. Now on your journey you will have bumps such as eating a cheese pizza after a night out or not realizing something you’re eating has animal products in it. That’s just life and there’s no need to punish yourself.

Being vegan isn’t just about food it’s also the products you wear and buy. There are so many companies out there that test on animals that sometimes it’s hard to know what to buy. A few days ago I found these face masks but they were tested on animals. It was hard at first to stop shopping at my favorite makeup stores but each day it got easier. While living a vegan lifestyle might seem hard at first it slowly gets easier to cut out that burger or to stop buying that makeup product. Each step on your journey is slowly improving the Earth for not only us but future generations.
